Community building by time credits

Video: Partnering with Spice – Grow your network

Spice has developed Time Credits as a tool for building stronger communities and co-produced services, where people are active participants. We value everyone’s time as equal and believe that everyone has something to give.

With a national network comprising hundreds of community organisations, local government institutions, housing associations and private businesses, Time Credits link people to each other, to services, to policy and to enterprise.

For each hour that people give to their community they earn one Time Credit. They can then spend their Time Credits on a range of activities provided by our network of partners.

Spice is currently running programmes across the UK with local councils, community development organisations, housing associations, health and social care providers and schools. We support these organisations to set up the Time Credit system, developing ways for individuals to earn and spend Time Credits and we also support a national network of partners who accept Time Credits.

Spice was recently named one of ‘Britain’s 50 New Radicals’ by The Observer in association with Nesta, shortlisted for the Guardian’s ‘Healthcare Innovation Awards’ 2013 and runner up in Ben and Jerry’s ‘Join Our Core’ social enterprise competition.
